Willard Peebles, age 96, of Milburn, KY died at Jackson Purchase Medical Center in Mayfield, on Monday, May 29, 2017.
He was born on October 16, 1920 to his parents, Herbert and Laverne Tramel Peebles. He served in the United States Army during World War II under General Patton in the 3rd Army and fought at The Battle of the Bulge and other battles across Central Europe, earning 5 Bronze Stars and other ribbons and awards. He was very proud of his military service. Mr. Peebles was also a very hard-working, independent, and self-sufficient farmer. He raised tobacco, hogs, and other crops on his farms around Milburn. He was a member of Milburn United Methodist Church and enjoyed gospel music and singing.
Mr. Peebles experienced many difficulties in life, but when he met his wife of twenty seven years, Myrtle Byassee Richards Peebles, in 1973, his life greatly changed for the better. He took his new role of devoted husband and step-father very seriously.
He is survived by his step-daughter, Ruby Simmons and husband, John of Lebanon, TN; Step-son, Othel Richards and wife, Diann of Beulah, KY; step-daughter-in-law, Mattie Richards of Indianapolis, IN; several step-grandchildren, step-great grand children, and step-great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; sister, Majorie Marie Peebles Hornback; step-son, Truman Richards and wife Una; step-son, James Edward Richards.
Services will be held on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at Milner & Orr Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Arlington at 2:00 p.m. with Revs. Glen Stewart and Max Anderson officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Milburn cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 beginning at 11:00 a.m.
