Roy "Lane" Vasseur

Mr. Roy D. “Lane” Vasseur, age 83 of Calvert City, KY died on Monday, December 17th, 2018 at Stone Creek Health and Rehab, Paducah, KY. He was retired from the US Navy and was a member of Lakeview Baptist Church. Mr. Vasseur was a KY Colonel, member of the Fleet Reserve Association, past Post Commander and cofounder of the honor guard for American Legion Post 236, Calvert City, past Post Commander and life member of the VFW, member of the NRA, and the Calvert City Masonic Lodge.

           

Born Thursday May 30th, 1935 in Gilbertsville, KY, he was the son of the late Roy Lee Vasseur and the late Lexie (Donohoo) Vasseur.

          

Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Barbara Ann (Beard) Vasseur, daughters Kim Rogers, husband Jeremy of Zalma, MO, Linda Gaddis, husband Les Paul of Benton, KY, and Carol Scanu of Viareggio, Italy, brothers Tom Vasseur, wife Susie of Benton, KY, Joe Vasseur, wife Glenda of Benton, KY, sisters, Jane Hines, husband Bob of Benton, KY, Nickie Jones, husband James of Benton, KY, and Linda Woodward of Benton, KY; 7 grandchildren, Matteo Scanu, Guilia Scanu, Michele Scanu, Jesse Vasseur, Alexys Snelling, Luke Sweeney, Moriah Davis; and 4 great grandchildren, Steele Hunt, Lydia Hunt, Bella Voss, and Sophie Katheryn Vasseur.

           

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother William Vasseur, sisters Minnie Jo Edwards and Martha Kendal, one grandchild Anna-Maria Daneill Shane, one great grandchild William Stone Mills, and one great niece Alexandra “Lexie” McCarty.

          

A funeral service, with military rites by American Legion Post 236, will be held at 11 AM on Friday, December 21, 2018 at Collier Funeral Chapel located at 211 West 5th St. Benton, KY 42025 with Jeremy Rogers officiating.           

          

Interment will follow in Lakeview Cemetery, Benton, KY.

           

The family will receive friends from 5 PM to 8 PM on Thursday, December 20, 2018, at Collier Funeral Home, 211 West 5th St, Benton, KY.
