"I have fought a good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith." 2 Timothy 4:7

Jack Leslie Cothran Jr. died at home on Thursday, October 25, after an extended illness, with his family at his bedside. Jack was born Between the Rivers in Lyon Co., KY, September 14, 1934. He was preceded in death by his father, Jack Leslie Cothran Sr. and his mother, Frieda Hayden Cothran. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Shirley Wylie Cothran; two daughters, Tracy Lee Cothran of Smithland, KY, and Kelly Cothran Wright of Grand Rivers, KY; one son, Jack Hayden Cothran of Kuttawa, KY; and three grandchildren, LeeAnna Wright, Hayden Kate Cothran, and Grayson Smallwood; one brother, Charles Andrew Cothran of Huntsville, AL; along with several nieces and nephews. Jack was a graduate of Murray State University, where he met his wife Shirley. He served in the United States Army, and was a very loved schoolteacher in Lyon and Livingston Counties. He was a farmer and logger. Jack was a member of Friendship Baptist Church, where he served as deacon and Sunday School teacher for more than thirty years. Jack’s main purpose in life was to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ. As long as he was able, he drove his truck around the area, sharing Jesus, his homegrown vegetables, and firewood with those he loved. He spread the gospel around the world through his support of foreign missions. He truly loved his God, his family, and the church. He was known for his almost superhuman strength. He was strong enough to master the wildest bull, and gentle enough to help a hurting child. He loved to share jokes with his buddies, and his wit was known at the family table, and the coffee drinkers table. He loved the outdoors, and was a hunter of hunters. Fishing, from crappie fishing to snagging was a passion he shared with us all. His love for Jesus was first in his life, and he loved his family with all his heart. He started the early hours of every morning studying God’s word and praying, calling out the name of every family member, friend, and every member of his church in prayer. His passing leaves a hole in our lives, but praise God, we will one day be with him again.

What a mighty, mighty man, and what a mighty, mighty God he served.
