Mrs. Carolyn Smith, 77 of Benton, KY peacefully passed away Sunday, April 26, 2020, at Ray and Kay Eckstein Hospice Care Center in Paducah, KY.
Born Saturday, April 24, 1943 in Detroit, MI, she was the daughter of the late Arthur Barr and the late Dorothy (Garlick) Barr. She was a retired hospital billing clerk and was a member of the Maple Spring United Methodist Church where she worked each month at the country ham breakfast. She enjoyed playing bingo and attending the Kentucky Opry as a season pass holder. Carolyn always had a smile on her face and a kind word for anyone she met. She also enjoyed all family gatherings whether it be a birthday or reunion.
In 1974 John and Carolyn made the move to Kentucky were they bought a locally ran grocery store. Smith’s Lakeway market was in business from 1974-1978. Carolyn met and became friends with many of the people from the Fairdealing/Olive community. After leaving the store she remained a member of this community.
Surviving are her husband of 58 years, John Smith, Jr. of Benton, KY; son, John Smith, IV, wife Jessica of Benton, KY; daughter, Julie Lane (Dwayne) of Benton, KY, sister, Barbara Robarge of Davison, MI; grandchildren, Brittany King (Warren), Aaron Lane (Natasha), Matt Smith and Eli Smith; great-grandchildren, Ollie King, Laney King, and Adley Lane due in June.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Nancy Hartley.
In compliance with the Commonwealth of Kentucky and the CDC's health and public safety directives, the funeral services for Mrs. Carolyn Smith will be private with burial in the Maple Springs Cemetery.
