Hardy Joseph Barry Pottinger II, 96 years old, of Paducah, died December 15, 2017 after a brief illness. He was born June 21, 1921 in Charleston Missouri, the son of Hardy Barry and Emma Katherine (Daniels) Pottinger. He was married to Dorothy Mae Lee September 28, 1943 in Visalia, California.
Hardy is survived by his sons Hardy III (Judy) of Mission, Texas, Jan of St. Louis, Missouri, Barry (Patricia) of West Chester, Ohio, and daughters Mary Ann (Larry) Richards of Madison, Alabama, and Dorothy Truitt of Paducah, twelve grandchildren, and over twenty great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, his parents
and one brother James.
Hardy graduated from St. Henry's High School in Charleston,
Missouri and attended Southeast Missouri State University. He served as a pilot
instructor in the Army Air Corp during World War II. Hardy was a Kentucky
Colonel, a member of the American Legion, and the National Society of the Sons
of the American Revolution as he was a direct descendant of Captain Samuel
Pottinger, one of the earliest settlers of Kentucky.
Hardy retired from the Department of Energy's Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant after 30 years of service. He was a fisherman, enjoyed playing golf, bingo, and cards with friends at the Paducah Senior Citizens Center.
Memorial visitation will be from 1:00pm to 3:00pm on Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at Lindsey Funeral Home.
