Byron L. Nashold, Sr., age 91, of Clinton, KY, passed away peacefully at 12:30 pm on Friday, April 29, 2016 at his home.

 

Barney retired from Refrigerated Trucking Company, based in Atlanta, Georgia in 1989. He spent the majority of his career working in the trucking business, beginning with Service Trucking Co in Federalsburg, MD. He worked with Service Trucking for 20 years before joining RTC where he worked as VP of Sales and Commerce.

 

He spent his retirement years with his wife, Ollena living in Greensboro, MD, San Diego, California, and finally settling in Columbus and Clinton, KY.

 

Barney was a proud World War II veteran enlisting in the USN on October 10, 1942, at the age of 17. He served in the Armed Guard attaining the rate of Gunners Mate 3C. He was involved in the European and Pacific theaters joining his brothers, George (Bud) US Army Air Corp, John (Jack) USN. He was honorably discharged at the end of the war.

 

During his retirement he enjoyed volunteering aboard the USS Midway and later volunteered at the Hickman County Museum in Clinton, KY. Spending time with his 7 Grandchildren, Steven Callaway, Amy Bickling, Jason Nashold, Byron L Nashold III, Josh Nashold, Lee and David Lemke, and 7 Great Grandchildren across the country was one of the greatest joys of his retirement. His retirement time spent at home included his passion for landscaping, gardening, reading historical non-fiction, playing solitaire, and watching FOX news. He was a proud member of the VFW and American Legion.

 

He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Ollena Doris Jones Nashold; daughter, Cheryl M Nashold of Columbus, KY; sons, Byron L Nashold, Jr and wife Yingzi of Virginia City, Nevada, and Kevin W Nashold and wife Jane of Easton, MD; brother, Gale P. Nashold of Greensboro, MD.

 

He was preceded in death by six sisters; four brothers; his parents were George Harrison Nashold and Annie Melville (Hooper) Nashold of Greensboro, Maryland.

 

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, May 4, 2016, at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Arlington with Rev. Max Cooper officiating.  Burial will follow at Arlington Cemetery.

 

Visitation will be held from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm on Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Arlington.
