He was born August 18, 1945 in Akron, Ohio to the late Joseph and Jeri Coughenour. He was an Army Reserve veteran and worked as a telephone technician for Bell South.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Kay Coughenour.
He is survived by his wife, Belinda Coughenour of Murray, Kentucky; stepson, Chris Thomas of Murray, Kentucky; sons, James Douglas Coughenour (Christine) of New Salisbury, Indiana, Stephen Coughenour (Melissa) of Louisville, Kentucky and Robbie Coughenour of Louisville, Kentucky; brothers, Jim Coughenour (Betsy) of Cambridge, Ohio and Dan Coughenour of Fountain Hills, Arizona; sisters, Joanne Brann (Dave) of Huntsville, Alabama and Jeri Lynn of Paducah, Kentucky; eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The family will plan a private memorial at a later date.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
