Mrs. Jacqueline (Lyn) Shroat McCarty, 81 of Memphis, Tennessee passed away Monday October 8, 2018. 

Many knew her as Jackie Shroat. She was born January 2, 1937 in Murray, Kentucky to Jack Shroat and Josephine Dyer. Raised in Murray she attended Murray High School.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her loving brother Nelson Shroat.

Mrs. McCarty is survived by her husband Jay, her children Lance Lobo and wife Bonnie, Laura Gorman and husband John, Christopher Lobo and wife Michelle,  Celeste McCarty and wife Catherine, her grandchildren Thea Lobo, Ian Lobo, Barrie McLain, John McLain, Ava Lobo, her nieces Robin Lazarini, Hilary Harris.

Lyn was an avid reader and loved collecting books especially her mystery novels. She enjoyed art and popular culture. She was a soulful southern cook and could make a meal out of a bag of greens and a knuckle. She was famous for her acceptance and tolerance and had a wide community of friends from all walks of life. She loved films and had a superior memory for actors and lines. One of her favorite lines was from the Tennessee Williams play Night of the Iguana, “Nothing human offends me unless its unkind”.

On Saturday, October 20, 2018 from 10:30 AM - 11:30 AM the family will hold a visitation at the Heritage Chapel of Imes Funeral Home, 1804 Highway 121 Bypass North, Murray, KY 42071. A brief memorial service will begin at 11:30 AM at the funeral home.  A private graveside ceremony for the immediate family will be held at Murray City Cemetery.

Expressions of sympathy can be made to local social service agencies helping the elderly or any women’s resource centers.
