Virgil D. King, 85, of Bardwell passed away at 1:07 a.m. Monday, July 30, 2018 at his residence. He was born in Carlisle County, Kentucky on January 20, 1933. Virgil was retired from Martin Marrietta after 23 ½ years of service where he worked in the Electrical Maintenance Department. After his retirement from Martin Marietta Virgil worked as School Security Guard as needed for Carlisle County School System for 15 years. He was a member of Bardwell Baptist Church where he sang in the choir as long as his health permitted him to do so. Virgil loved to sing and sang Barbershop with a chorus made up of his family members for several years. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. Virgil’s greatest love was being a Granddaddy to his granddaughter and her children.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sandy Morrison King; sons, Will King and wife Sandy of Paducah and James King of Bardwell; granddaughter, Kelsey Johnston and husband Ryan of Paducah; great grandchildren, Elli Johnston and Case Johnston; sister, Barbara Wilkinson of Clinton; brother, Lowell King of Bardwell and several nieces and nephews.
Virgil was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Billy P. King and J.T. King. His parents were Willie Rufus King and Irene Forrester King.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Bardwell with Leland King officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Roselawn Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at the funeral home.
