James R. Coates, 89, of Arlington, passed away on Sunday, June 3, 2018 at Baptist Health Paducah.
James was born in Columbus, Kentucky on March 13, 1929 to Carl and Velma (Burgess) Coates. He will be remembered best as being a loving family man who enjoyed spending time outdoors fishing and working in his gardens.
James is survived by two daughters, Debbie (Coates) Johnson and Patricia (Coates) Kelly and husband, Bobby; six grandchildren, Greg Kelly and wife, Allison, Kari (Kelly) McConnell and husband, Holden, Clay Johnson, Heather (Johnson) Devine and husband, Clint, Brian Coates and wife, Melinda and Kelly (Coates) Risner and husband, Bobby; 10 great-grandchildren, Jack Kelly, Cullen McConnell, Savannah Devine, Paisley Devine, Anthony Devine, Morgan Coates, Mallory Coates, Madison Coates, Kenzie Risner and Ella Risner; four nephews, Gary Coates and wife, Maggie, Mike Coates, Tim McCann and Terry McCann.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 42 years, Bertha (Dublin) Coates; one son, Kenny Coates; one great-grandson, Philip Ray McConnell; his parents; one sister, Christine (Coates) Dick; three brothers, Thomas, Russell and Carl Ray Coates.
A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at Burkley Cemetery in Burkley, Kentucky with Rev. Max Cooper officiating. Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Arlington is in charge of arrangements.
