Donald “Donnie” Bruer Sr., 62, of Columbus, passed away on Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at Ray & Kay Eckstein Hospice Care Center.
He was born on March 7, 1956 in Clinton to the late James Harold Bruer and Virginia Nell Evans Bruer. He worked at Goodyear for 31 years and was a volunteer firefighter for 32 years with the Columbus Fire Department. Donnie loved to hunt, fish and enjoy the outdoors. He was a member of USWA Local 878L and of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by three daughters, Carrie Morris of Columbus, Sarah Caughlin (Dwight) of Bardwell, Jessica Kuykendall (Ryan) of Brooklyn Center, Minnesota; three sons, Donald Bruer, Jr. (Tia) of Clinton, Joshua Bruer (Heidi) of Columbus, James Bruer (Bridget) of Columbus; three sisters, Patricia Merriman of St. Elmo, Illinois, Connie Ellegood of Mayfield, Regina Dowdy of Clinton; two brothers, Gaylon Bruer of Arlington, Ronnie Bruer of Columbus; 16 grandchildren, Alexandria Jones, Zachary Morris, Tracy Dix, Dustin Caughlin, Amber Cromey, Austin Bruer, Jordan Bruer, Preston Bruer, Paislee Bruer, Cheyenne Hill, Elijah Bruer, Serenity Bruer, William Kuykendall, Emily Kuykendall, Aiden Becker, Brooklyn Becker, 10 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
Donnie was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Ellegood Bruer; two sisters, Janie Hogancamp and LaDonna Watson; one brother, Kenneth Bruer, and his parents.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 9, 2019 at 12:00 p.m. at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Arlington with Rev. Gaylon Bruer officiating. Burial will follow the service at Zion Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 8, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Milner & Orr Funeral Home Of Arlington.
