Mary Lou Jeffrey Molloy, 87, of Ledbetter, KY, passed away at her home at 7:07 am on Wednesday, June 28, 2017 after her 14-year long, very courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

She was born Mary Lou Barnes on August 20, 1929, in Smithland, KY in the famous Gower House.  She spent part of her childhood in Smithland and the last years of her life in Ledbetter, but most of her years were spent living in Paducah.  She was valedictorian and voted the prettiest girl in her 1948 Reidland High School graduating class.

Most Paducah-area people will remember Mary Lou as a bank teller at the downtown main branch of Citizens Bank & Trust Co. from 1948 through 1976, at which time she temporarily retired.  In the mid-‘60’s she also worked for two years at the Liberty Super Market in downtown Paducah.  From 1990 – 2002 she worked as a receptionist at the front desk at Paducah’s Pear Tree Inn, and for a short time in 2003 as a hostess at  Paducah’s Cracker Barrel restaurant. In the late 1950’s she also worked part time at her husband’s Southside Drive-In restaurant on Bridge Street and in the early 1960’s at his Wilson’s Candy Company downtown.

Mary Lou was a member for many years at Aldersgate Methodist Church, and was currently a member of Reidland Baptist Church.  She was a Kentucky Colonel and a Duchess of Paducah.  “Lou Lou” was well-loved by so many and will be remembered for her talkative, happy and courteous personality along with her big smile.

Mrs. Molloy was preceded in death by her mother and father, Minnie Morrell Barnes and Orville Goble “Sonny” Barnes of Smithland, one infant brother, her first husband, Shirley Grady Jeffrey, and her second husband, Lee Pope Molloy.

She is survived by her two sons, Charlie Mac Jeffrey of Ledbetter, Ky, and Terry Mike Jeffrey of Paducah; her daughter-in-law, Debbie Jeffrey; her two grandchildren, Angela Noel Hufford of Paducah and Adam Michael Jeffrey and wife Kristie of Walls, Mississippi; 6 great-grandchildren – Chase, Olivia, Savannah, Sierra, Madalynn, and Aspen; and many nephews and nieces.

Services for Mary Lou will be at Lindsey Funeral Home in downtown Paducah on Monday, July 3, with visitation from 11am – 2pm, at which time a short funeral service will begin with the Rev. Gregory Waldrop officiating.  There will be a private family graveside service following the funeral.

Memorials may take the form of donations to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in Memphis, TN, and the McCracken County, KY Humane Society in Paducah.
