William Samuel “Sam” Futrell, 91, of Paducah, Kentucky passed away at 1:12 P.M. Thursday, December 20, 2018 at Fern Lake surrounded by his loving family.

 

Sam was born in Goreville, Illinois on October 16, 1927 to Elmer and Rebecca Futrell.  He was a member of First Baptist Church of Paducah and served as a deacon while attending Immanuel Baptist Church.  He worked at Union Carbide for 13 years.  He earned his Master of Science degree/Rank One and was employed by the State of Kentucky as a vocational education coordinator.  He belonged to the Purchase Area Antique Tractor Club and Lone Oak Lions Club.  He and his wife founded and co-owned Fern Lake Campground (Fern Lake Cherry House) since 1977.

 

He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Fern Randolph Futrell; his three daughters, Pamela Sue Treas of Lexington, Kentucky, Deanna Bazzell (Greg) of Paducah, Kentucky, Janice Whetstone (Hank) of St. Augustine, Florida; his grandchildren, Julie Treas Peach, Jill Treas Baker, Jessica Carfield, Reagan Carfield Berry, Jared Whetstone, Hayden Whetstone, Jay Bazzell, Amanda Bazzell Crawley; his great-grandchildren, Sam, Austin, Brett, and Aiden Baker, Trenton and Cali Hurlburt, Stella, Addis, Kona, and Violet Berry, Alexis and Campbell Bazzell, Jillian, Jocelyn, and Joel Crawley, Kali and Alan Peach.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joel Elmer Futrell and Rebecca Martin Futrell; his sisters, Mary Ragains and Loudean Wells.

 

Funeral services are scheduled for 3:00 P.M. Thursday, December 27, 2018 at First Baptist Church of Paducah, 2890 Broadway, Paducah.  Grandson, Rev. Jonathan Berry will be officiating. 

 

Visitation will be held at the church from 1:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. Thursday, December 27, 2018.

 

Burial will take place at 11:00 A.M. Friday, December 28, 2018 at Sulphur Springs Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in 103 Raum Rd, Golconda, IL.
