Van Michael “Mike” Parker, age74, of Metropolis, Illinois passed away at 2:15 pm on Saturday, October 28, 2017 at the Massac Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at the Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home in Metropolis. Dan Owen will officiate. Burial will follow in the Metropolis Memorial Gardens.
Mike was retired from Lafarge Corporation, was a member of the Broadway Church of Christ in Paducah, KY since 1979, and served in the Army Reserves. He was a proud supporter of the National Rifle Association and the Massac County Patriot volleyball team. Mike loved golf, boating, scuba diving, swimming, camping, hunting, fishing, and spending time with the Broadway Church of Christ Senior Seekers.
Mike is survived by his wife of 53 years, Carol (Parks) Parker of Metropolis, IL; daughters, Lisa Moore and husband David of Columbus, KY, Lori Biggers and husband Roy of Metropolis, IL, Shelia Kester and husband Kurt of New Columbia, IL; grandchildren, Emily Biggers & Aubrey Biggers both of Metropolis, IL, Parker Kester & Eli Kester both of New Columbia, IL; sister, Joan Barnes of Murray, KY, but recently moved to Puryear, TN; sister-in-law, Catherine Sue Parker of Metropolis, IL; nieces, Melanie Linder and husband Tim of Henderson, TN, Mendi Jones and husband Britt of Paducah, KY; nephews, Matthew Parker and wife Jamie of Metropolis, IL, Kem Barnes of Puryear, TN.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Wylie and Lula (Hill) Parker; daughter, Leslie Parker; brother, Lonnie “Pat” Parker; nephew, Randy Barnes and wife Karen; brother-in-law, Hubert Barnes.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 from 12 noon to 2 pm at the Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home in Metropolis.
Pallbearers will be Parker Kester, Eli Kester, Kurt Kester, Roy Biggers, David Moore, and Matthew Parker.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Bob Chick and Ronnie McNichols.
