Graveside services will be held at 11 am on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at Stokes Chapel Cemetery in Crossville, Illinois with Rev. Jeff Bealmear officiating.

Pamela Sue (Brown) Maurer was born on February 9, 1949 in Evansville, IN. She was the daughter of C. Edward Brown and Bettye Cagle Brown and stepdaughter of Glen A. Piland all of Crossville, IL. Pam enjoyed this little town she called home, especially the annual Alumni Banquet. In over 50 years, she had missed only once. She looked forward to visiting lifelong friends and teachers.

Pam was a hairdresser and cosmetologist for over 40 years. She met many wonderful people in her business. Pam was a graduate of the first cosmetology class at John A. Logan with an associate degree in applied science. She then continued her education at SIU. She enjoyed her family dearly and attended many of her grandson’s ballgames. She loved spending time on KY Lake, shopping, her friends, antiques, gardening, and riding around in her Little Red Thunderbird convertible.

Pam was preceded in death by her parents and an infant daughter.

Pam is survived by the love of her life for over 51 years, Don; her son, whom she was proud of, Matt and wife Kelly; 3 precious grandsons, Andrew, Luke, and Zachary all of Metropolis. Also two brothers, Ed Brown and wife Michele of West Des Moines, IA and Brad Piland and wife Susan of Metropolis and three very special nieces, Arianne Dillon and husband Matt, Samantha Parker and husband Tanner all of Paducah, KY, and Laura Howard and husband Jon of Fisher, IN; two great nieces and one great nephew; and a multitude of cousins and friends.

Pam loved her church, March to the manger Christmas service, Jesus, and taught Sunday school for many years. She and Don attended the Little Egypt Walk to Emmaus in 1998 and it changed their lives forever. She worked on many Emmaus teams guiding others into a deeper relationship with Christ. She served on the board and as the LEWE Community Lay Director. Another highlight of her life was a trip, she took with Don and a group from church, to Israel where she was able to walk where Jesus walked and taught.

Visitation will be held on Thursday evening February 1, 2018 from 6 pm to 8 pm at the First United Methodist Church in Metropolis, and also on Friday, February 2, 2018 from 10 am to 11 am at the church.

Memorials may be made in Pam’s name to First United Methodist Church, 100 East 5th Street, Metropolis, Illinois 62960.
