Mary Ann Champion, age 88 of Paducah, passed away at 10:36 p.m. Sunday, February 9, 2020 at the Reflections Memory Care Facility in Carterville, IL. Mary Ann was an 80 plus years member of Immanuel Baptist Church and a 1949 graduate of Augusta Tilghman High School. Mary Ann and her late husband, Harry, were residents of Lone Oak for 43 years. She retired from Lone Oak Elementary School where she was secretary for 20 years. “Miss” Mary Ann and Mr. Bill “Buck” were the mortar that held Lone Oak Elementary School together for many years serving the grades of 1-6. Mary Ann leaves behind three special “S” friends, Sue Fendley, Sara Fuller and Shirley Walker, along with many other friends and special people whose lives she touched.
Survivors include one daughter, Cheryl “Cheri” Riley and husband Bill, of Campbell Hill, Illinois; one son, M. Andrew “Andy” Champion and wife, Connie, of Paducah; her eight grandchildren, Richard (Becky) Champion of Louisville, Jessica (Rich) Schertz of Lexington, Kyle (Christina) Champion, Daniel (Tina) Champion of Lexington, Stephanie Williams of Sugarland, Stacie Byrd of Paducah, Patrick (Terra) Riley of DuQuoin, Illinois, and Cathy Troue of Percy, Illinois and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Harry Marland Champion, one daughter, Marcia Gail Hosick Moore, her parents, David Escar “Jack” Pease and Mary Margaret Moss Pease.
Services will be held on Sunday, February 16, 2020 at 2:30 p.m. at the Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah with Rev. Jamie Broome officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Kenton Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Sunday, February 16, 2020 from 12:00 p.m. until service time of 2:30 p.m. at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah.
