Lydia Childers Corzine age 93 of Metropolis, passed away with her family by her side on February 15, 2019.  She was born August 17, 1925 in Massac County to Fred and Sophia Meyer Childers.

A celebration of Lydia’s life will be held on Monday, February 18, 2019 at 1 p.m. at Lighthouse Assembly of God on Airport Road in Metropolis with Pastor Mark Russell officiating. Burial will follow at Seven Mile Baptist Church Cemetery.

Throughout high school and after graduation, Lydia was faithful in assisting her family by working several jobs, one of which was at Fitch’s Five and Dime.  In 1950 she married her husband of 65 years, Paul Corzine.  Lydia was employed by Magnavox Co. of Paducah for several years.  Paul and Lydia then opened and operated the Egyptian Trail Restaurant and maintained that business for 42 years; they were noted for their delicious doughnuts, home made breads and pies, and especially their generosity.  She was a dedicated servant to her community, serving on the Gideons Women’s Auxiliary and to her church, Lighthouse Assembly of God.

Lydia is survived by two daughters, Sophfonda Harrison and husband Steve of Metropolis, and Devonda Treece and husband Randy of Paducah.  Lydia cherished her grandchildren, Samuel Harrison and wife Stephanie of Nashville, Tennessee, Natalie Treece of Paducah, Elliot Treece and wife Stacey of Paducah, Tifanie Treece of Evansville, Indiana and Savanah Whittaker and husband Ross of Bloomington, Indiana; Also, her nephews, Bill Childers, Jack Mizell, Jerry Mizell, Bob Childers, Argus Childers, Jim Childers, Ron Corzine and Adam Corzine; and nieces, Marge Reynolds, Lawanda Elam, Deena Schneider and Phyllis Pollard.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul, her parents, four brothers, William (Marie), Harley (Lillian), Halbert (Stelza), and Thurman (Rose) Childers, two sisters Lena Teague (Wayne), Ethel Mizell (Julian), and one niece, Joanne Overturf.

The family will receive friends on Monday February 18, 2019 from 11 a.m. until the funeral hour at 1 p.m. at Lighthouse Assembly of God.

Memorials may be given in Lydia’s name to the Food Pantry at Lighthouse Assembly of God, 670 Airport Road, Metropolis, IL  62960.
