Louis Gene Hollinsaid (Gene), of Metropolis, IL, passed away at Massac Memorial Hospital in Metropolis, IL on October 5, 2016. He was 93 years young. He was born in Carbondale, IL on April 14, 1923 to Franklin Harvey and Leona (Burnett) Hollingsead.

Gene served in the Army, stateside, during World War II.

He retired from Owens Illinois Glass Co. in Streator, IL after 32 years, where he was a crew leader in shipping and receiving department.

Gene and his wife Mary Edna (Warwick) and family lived in Wenona, IL for 42 years. Gene and Mary later made their home in Metropolis, IL. Gene is survived by his wife, Mary; four daughters, Carolyn and Gary Schoof of Eureka, IL, Mary Lou and Ron Wilson of Dallas, OR, Linda and Jimmie Strouch of Birch Tree, MO, Janice and Don Stenzel of Platte City, MO; two sons, Danny and Nancy Hollinsaid of Malden, IL, Louis Randal and Chunying Hollinsaid of Streator, IL. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren; one brother-in-law, Scott Warwick and sister-in-law, Marie Coburn both of Metropolis.

He was preceded in death by his grandson, Staff Seargent Lincoln Daniel Hollinsaid who was killed in action in Bagdad, Iraq; his parents; eight sisters and two brothers.

His family is planning a celebration of his life in April of 2017.
