Dorothy Halvorson

 

Dorothy Halvorson, 82, of Paducah, KY passed away on Monday, June 1, 2015 at the Southgate Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Metropolis, IL. She was born March 10, 1933, in Buyck, MN to Stanley and Rose Hoffman, the fifth of nine children. Dorothy was a member of the St. John’s Catholic Church in Paducah, Kentucky. In October 1951, she married Lawrence “Sonny” Halvorson from Virginia, MN, who was in the Army stationed in Anchorage AK. She was a very hard working, successful business owner and operator in Moscow, Idaho where she and her husband owned Larry’s Shoes and Dorothy’s Fabrics, and raised their four boys.  When they retired, their home became San Carlos, Sonora, Mexico where they had many friends and enjoyed deep sea fishing, square dancing, bingo and sharing dinners with friends and family. She was a very talented seamstress and was well known as an excellent cook, especially her three-day spaghetti. Dorothy was a loving wife, very dedicated mother to her husband and four sons. She dearly loved  her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Dorothy was very selfless and was  loved, cherished and respected for always putting her family first. We will always remember you and you will always be in our hearts.

 

Dorothy is survived by her husband of almost 64 years, Lawrence H. Halvorson of Paducah, KY; sons, Larry Halvorson, III of Boise, ID, Mike Halvorson and wife Suzi of Stevensville, MT, Pat Halvorson of Paducah, KY and Bruce Halvorson and wife Shell of Paducah, KY; sisters, Marie Sertich (Greg) of Duluth, MN and Jessie Rutar (Anthony) of Buyck, MN; brother, Charles Hoffman of Buyck, MN; grandchildren, Rich and Steve Halvorson, Jeff Halvorson, Tami Jo Williams, Tommy Halvorson and wife Brynn, Jenny Johnson and husband Brent, Justin Halvorson, Rosemary, Patrick, Bobby and Joey Halvorson; great-grandchildren, Madison, Brennen and Eva Johnson and many nieces and nephews.

 

She was preceded in death by a grandson, Jacob Halvorson and five brothers. Her parents were Stanley Hoffman and Rose Bernice Lasky Hoffman of Buyck, MN.

 

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 5, 2015 at the St. John’s Catholic Church in Paducah, KY, with Rev. Tom Buckman officiating.

 

Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Thursday, June 4, 2015 at the Lone Oak Chapel of Milner & Orr Funeral Home where prayers will be at 7:00 p.m.

 

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to, Lourdes Hospice, P.O. Box 7100, Paducah, KY 42002 or to St. John Catholic Church, 6705 Old U.S. Highway 45 South, Paducah, KY 42003. The family would like to thank the wonderful people at Southgate Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Metropolis, IL and Lourdes Hospice for their loving and compassionate care they gave to Dorothy.
