David Ashburn, age 65, of Paducah, KY passed away on Sunday, June 16, 2019 while camping in Redfield, Kansas.

Mr. Ashburn was born in Cairo, Illinois on December 23, 1953 to Charles and Alice (Taylor) Ashburn.  He earned his bachelors and masters degrees in Environmental Engineering from Murray State University.  He retired from a 45 year career as an environmental engineer for the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant.

David was an avid outdoorsman which was highlighted by his accolades as an Eagle Scout, Tennessee Scenic River Association Whitewater Paddling Instructor, and Paducah Power Squadron Member.  His love for everything outdoors lead him to adventures in hiking, backpacking, kayaking, camping, rafting, sailing, rock climbing, spelunking, mountain biking, jeeping, snow skiing, and scuba diving, to name a few.  David filled every minute of every day with compassion, a spirit of adventure, without regrets, and with an optimistic outlook. 

A husband, a father, a grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, his greatest treasure was his family.   This love was complemented by his endless generosity, humility, and wealth of knowledge which he freely shared. 

David is survived by his wife of 44 years, Gail Fox Ashburn; his daughter, Chrissy Love and husband, Ross, of Brentwood, TN; his son, Joseph Ashburn, M.D. and wife, Heather, of Metropolis, IL; his mother, Alice (Taylor) Ashburn of Paducah; one sister, Nancy Stalion of Paducah; one brother, Mark Ashburn of Paducah; six grandchildren, Lily Ashburn, Hannah Love, Harper Love, Hazel Love, Chris Roland, and Carter Roland; and one great-grandchild, Ayden Stone.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Ashburn.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, June 21, 2019 at the Lone Oak Chapel of Milner & Orr Funeral Homes with Rev. Joel Cauley officiating.  Burial will follow at Dickerson cemetery.  

Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Thursday, June 20, 2019 at the Lone Oak Chapel of Milner & Orr Funeral Homes.
