Loretta Lee Moore

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Loretta Lee Moore, who died peacefully at the age of 83.
Loretta was born on January 7, 1942, in Reed City, Michigan, to Sidney and Geraldine Moore. From birth, her father nicknamed her “Cookie,” a name which stuck all the way to her becoming “Grandma Cookie” and “Aunt Cookie” to many children. Throughout her life, she touched the hearts of many with her strength, compassion, and unwavering dedication to helping others.
Loretta grew up in rural Michigan and attended the Carr Settlement one-room schoolhouse, an experience that helped shape her lifelong love of learning and connection. She graduated from Scottsville High School before embarking on a life filled with purpose and exploration.
She began her career as a stewardess with United Airlines, which sparked a lifelong love of travel. Over the years, she lived in many states and embraced each new place as an opportunity to grow, learn, and make friends. With her open heart and genuine interest in others, Loretta built a wide and lasting circle of friendship that spanned the country.
Her professional journey reflected her versatility and her caring nature. She served as a branch manager at East Lansing State Bank, worked as a tax preparer with H&R Block, and later drove the Senior Shuttle in Granville, New York - a role she loved, helping others with kindness and dignity.
Loretta was a woman of deep faith, and her spiritual life was a cornerstone of her character. Her belief in God guided her actions, comforted her in difficult times, and inspired those around her. She was also a proud and active member of Alcoholics Anonymous for over 33 years. Through her own recovery, she became a beacon of hope and strength for others, sponsoring and mentoring many. She volunteered at the historic Bill Wilson House in East Dorset, Vermont, and gave numerous heartfelt talks about her life and experiences, leaving a legacy of healing, truth, and community. Loretta was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, a Masonic charity organization, building lasting friendships, and loving kindness for all.
In addition to her service, Loretta was a gifted knitter. Her family and friends treasure the many handmade pieces she created - each stitch woven with love, generosity, and thoughtfulness.
Loretta is survived by her loving daughters, Charmaine Smith of Groveland, Florida, and Suzanne (Andy) McEachron of Spring Hill, Florida; three grandchildren, Bradley, Andrew, and Katherine McEachron; sister-in-law Judith Moore; niece Jennifer (Tom) Day; nephew Jason (Mary) Moore; great-nephews Elliot Day and Cameron Moore; and many beloved cousins whose lives she touched deeply. She was also an "adopted" grandma to many more who will cherish her memory.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Sidney and Geraldine Moore; her brother, Jon Moore; and her granddaughter, Shelby McEachron.
Loretta’s legacy is one of faith, service, resilience, and love. Her warm spirit, courageous heart, and generous nature made a lasting difference in the lives of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 1, 2025, at 10:30 A.M. at the Evergreen Covenant Church in Branch, Michigan. All are welcome to attend.
