Lois, known and loved by everyone as “Mamaw,” went to be with Jesus peacefully at the age of 93, surrounded by her loved ones at her bedside, holding her hand and singing the old hymn, “He’ll Hold to My Hand”. It was a day she had longed for since she was just eleven years old, when she gave her heart to the Lord. She has served Him faithfully those 82 years since that day without wavering.
At the young age of 14, she married the love of her life, and together they built a beautiful life, raising five children. They shared a strong and loving marriage for 72 years before God called him home. Their bond was a testament to enduring love and devotion.
Mamaw was truly a precious soul. You never had to question her love-it was evident in everything she did. She had a special way of showing her grandchildren just how deeply she cared, and they loved her just as dearly in return. But her love didn’t stop there-she extended kindness to friends and even strangers, always showing genuine care and compassion, especially for those less fortunate. She was “Mamaw” not just to her family, but to everyone who knew her.
She also had a playful and unique sense of humor. At times, she would say things that made you pause and wonder if she may possibly be losing her mind -but before long, you realized she knew exactly what she was doing. Her wit brought smiles and laughter to those around her.
Mamaw was proud of her Cherokee heritage and loved showing others the photo of her grandmother, who was Cherokee. She was a member of the Cherokee Indian Nation and that was a part of her identity she held close to her heart.
She was a faithful member of Glorybarn Holiness Church, attending whenever she possibly could-even when it wasn’t easy. Her dedication to God’s house was an example to all who knew her. Above all, she loved singing the old gospel hymns and worshipping her Savior. It brings comfort and joy to know that today, she is singing and praising Him with the heavenly choir for all eternity.
We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to her daughter and son-in-law, James and Meriel Fulcher, for lovingly welcoming her into their home and caring for her so beautifully over the last four years of her life. Also, a special thanks to her friend, Deborah, who helped care for her many times. In those final years, she often spoke of her longing for that heavenly home, where she would be joyfully reunited with those who had gone on before her.
