Larry R. Buchanan, 76, of Athens, AL, formally from Paducah, KY, passed away at Huntsville Hospital in Huntsville, Alabama, on Monday, September 14, 2026, at 11:04 a.m., surrounded by his loving family.
Larry was born on April 3, 1950, in Paducah to the late Guy Buchanan and Lucille Buchanan.
Larry was a longtime member of Lone Oak First Baptist Church in Paducah. Music was an important part of his life and career. He worked as a music teacher for Paducah City Schools for more than 30 years, sharing his love of music with generations of students. Larry also faithfully served as a Minister of Music for more than 30 years, a role from which he later retired.
Above all, Larry’s life revolved around his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He treasured the time he spent with them and loved being a part of their lives. Larry also enjoyed camping and traveling, making many special memories along the way.
Larry is survived by his two daughters, Christy (Steve) Slimp of Athens, AL, and Ashley (Willie) Thompson of Paducah; one brother, Donald “Don” (Nancy) Buchanan of Richmond, Virginia; three grandchildren, Alex Slimp, Kamron (Jessica) Slimp, and Kyler Thompson; and two great-grandchildren, Lainey Willow and Paisley Lynn.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah with Rev. Bob Martin officiating.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10:30 a.m. until the service hour of 1:00 p.m.
