Joseph Thomas Wurth, a cherished member of the Paducah community, passed away on March 9, 2026, at the age of 76. Born on October 17, 1949, in Paducah, Kentucky, Joe developed a strong work ethic and a deep sense of dedication that would define his long and fruitful life.

Joe's journey began as a student at PCC, where he earned his Bachelor's degree before embarking on a distinguished career. He became a revered machinist at the P & L Railroad, where for over 30 years, his skill and reliability were as solid as the engines he worked on. His commitment to his colleagues was equally robust; Joe was an unwavering member of the International Association of Machinists (I.A.M.) Union for over 50 years, also serving as their treasurer and providing an example of integrity to the labor community.

Outside of work, Joe’s love for trains extended beyond his profession as he took time to teach his daughter Stacy all about them, sharing his knowledge and enthusiasm. Moreover, his compassion radiated through his persistent volunteer work at St. Mark United Methodist Church and the Margaret Hank Memorial Cumberland Presbyterian Church, where he involved himself in numerous projects, always eager to lend a hand and his expertise.

Joe had the heart of a giver and was the embodiment of kindness. He was the kind of man who would give you the shirt off his back without a second thought. His love for woodworking created a legacy of beautiful handcrafted pieces, an illustration of his talent and generosity.  In the community, he was a beloved and familiar face, always ready to contribute his time and skills to the projects of the AmeriCorps, striving to make a difference where it was needed most. Through his actions, Joe was a living testament to the values of empathy and compassion.

Joe Wurth is survived by his wife of 56+ years, Barbara Ann Patterson Wurth; one daughter, Stacy Renee Wurth Beasley (Chris) of Symsonia; one son, Joseph Richard Wurth (Nan) of Phoenix, Arizona; two sisters, Cathy Mcelya of Paducah and Frances Wurth of St. Louis; one brother, Charles Fredrick Wurth (Martha) of Tupelo, Mississippi; one granddaughter, Sara Elizabeth Farris (Zephaniah) of Symsonia; one grandson, Seth Thomas Beasley of Symsonia; one great granddaughter, Ava Rose Farris of Symsonia; three sisters-in-law, Norma Jean Weiss, Carolyn Malone, and Cindy Patterson; and one special family friend who was like a sister to Joseph and Barbara, Tracy DeFreitas.

Joe was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Conley Wurth; his mother, Ora May Ross Wurth; and one brother-in-law, Richard Patterson.

A memorial service will take place at 2 P.M. on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at the Milner and Orr Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Paducah, with Dr. Chris Fleming officiating.  Visitation will begin at 12 P.M. and continue until the service starts.
