Joel Lane Zeiler, 66, of Paducah, Kentucky, passed away on May 6, 2026, at the Holiday House in Paducah. He was born in Denver, Colorado, to the late Emil Zeiler and Elaine Deperschmidt Zeiler.
Joel earned his Master’s degree and proudly went on to serve his country in both the United States Army and the United States Coast Guard, being honorably discharged from both branches. During his military service, he received numerous awards and commendations, including the Coast Guard Rifle Sharpshooter Ribbon, Coast Guard Pistol Marksman Ribbon, Coast Guard Good Conduct Medal, Coast Guard Meritorious Unit Commendation Ribbon, Commandant’s Letter of Commendation Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Army Good Conduct Medal, and Humanitarian Service Medal. Following his military career, Joel continued his service through his work with the Corps of Engineers.
Joel was of the Catholic faith. He was a proud grandfather and cared for his family deeply. He was most comfortable at home, spending time with his family and hobbies. Joel was known for his stubborn nature by those closest to him, a trait that often reflected his strong will and determination. He was an avid coin collector and took great joy in sharing pieces of his collection with his children. He was also a gun enthusiast who enjoyed working with and learning about firearms.
He is survived by his loving spouse, Johanna Zeiler of Paducah, Kentucky; two daughters, Alanna Zeiler of Paducah, Kentucky, and Audrey (Andrew) Bachuss of Kevil, Kentucky; one sister, Carol Zeiler of Arizona; and three grandchildren, Owen Bachuss, Rylee Bachuss, and Ethan Bachuss.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Emil Zeiler and Richard Zeiler.
A visitation will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 14, 2026, at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah. A graveside service with military honors will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, May 18, 2026, at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, Missouri.
