A woman and a dog died when a van went into the Cumberland River south of Clarksville on Friday morning.

A boater saw the vehicle enter the water near the Lock B South boat ramp, according to the Montgomery County Fire Department. Initially it was not confirmed whether the van was occupied.

Rescue crews and a dive team were dispatched and just after noon the van was recovered. The woman and a dog, both dead, were found inside.

The Montgomery County Sheriffs office said the woman has not been identified, and the county's criminal investigation division is handling the case.
