West Tennessee Lawmaker Dies Unexpectedly

BARTLETT - A Shelby County state representative has passed away unexpectedly.

Representative Ron Lollar, (R-Bartlett), died early Friday morning. He was 69. Lollar represented District 99 which includes parts of Millington, Arlington, Lakeland, and Bartlett.

Shelby County Commissioner David Reaves told West Kentucky Star, "Ron's passing is a tremendous loss for west Tennessee, and especially Shelby County. We partnered on many initiatives, dealing with education. He was a fearless and tireless public education advocate."

Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam said on Twitter, "I am sad to hear of the passing of Representative Ron Lollar, and my thoughts are with his family. For more than a decade, he served the 99th District with deep dedication and was a strong voice in the Tennessee General Assembly. His presence will be missed in the Capitol and across the state."

A Vietnam veteran, Lollar leaves a wife and three children. Funeral Services will be at 1:00 pm Wednesday at Faith Baptist Church in Bartlett, where he served as a deacon.
