Sickness among students and staff in the Obion County School System is being monitored.

According to KYTN, Obion County Director of Schools Tim Watkins said that school officials are watching the numbers of both students and staff who have recently been affected.

Watkins said at this time, the absenteeism is not a system-wide issue, rather at individual schools.

He pointed out that last week, several students and staff were affected at Obion County Central High School in Troy, with high numbers also reported on Monday at Black Oak Elementary in Hornbeak.

Reports indicate cases of Type-A flu have been confirmed, along with a stomach flu.

Watkins added that staff and custodians at each school are taking extra precautions, including extra cleanings and washing of hands, to prevent spreading of the sickness.

He said school officials will continue to monitor the situation.
