According to the USGS, a magnitude 2.9 tremor occurred at 8:59 am. It was about 5.5 miles below the earth's surface, and epicentered in Linda, Missouri. This is just across the Mississippi River from Tiptonville, Tennessee.
Another quake of magnitude 2.3, occurred at 11:31 am. It was 8 miles below the ground, and epicentered 2.1 miles north of LaForge, Missouri, about 13 miles SSE of Sikeston.
The two locations are about 20 miles apart on a north-south line along the Mississippi River between Missouri, Tennessee and Kentucky.
A few people in Tennessee reported feeling the first quake.
The USGS says a quake that generally measures above a 2.5 or 2.6 threshold can usually be felt by humans.
