First responders were hit with fireworks early Sunday morning in Jackson, TN while responding to a fire call.

In a press release, the Jackson Fire Department said they were called at 1:13 am to Carver Avenue for a dumpster fire.

When Engine 32 arrived at the scene, they, along with Battalion Chief #1, and several Jackson Police units were hit by small and large mortar fireworks that were directed at them by a crowd of approximately 40 people that had gathered in the area.

As a result, one firefighter was injured, and several city vehicles were damaged.

Jackson Fire Department Operations Chief Don Friddle commented, "we will not and cannot tolerate this type of behavior toward those that give so much to protect our community".

Both the Jackson Fire and Police Departments are working to find those responsible for the injury and property damage. The incident is being investigated as an assault on a public service official, and anyone with information is asked to contact the Jackson Police Department at 731-425-8400.
