Discovery Park of America has unveiled a new sound system that will add realism to some of the park's exhibits.

As visitors explore the museum they will now hear the sounds of dinosaurs in Dinosaur Hall, real audio from NASA’s Voyager in the Science, Space and Technology gallery, vintage radio commercials in the Transportation gallery and the sounds of Reelfoot Lake around the aquarium.

At DPA’s Train Depot, guests will hear a recording from the 1920s of an actual steam engine pulling into a depot and other areas will include relevant music or appropriate sound effects.

“We wanted to increase the transformative aspects of the DPA experience,” said Jennifer Wildes, collections and exhibits director for the park. “Including audio as the backdrop really immerses guests in each exhibit and feels as though the museum really has come alive.”

Wildes and DPA’s information technology assistant director, Robert Pardue, worked with Lowrance Sound Company, also based in Union City, on taking the idea from a brainstorming session to reality.
