A new study shows Kentucky is the sixth fattest state in the nation.

The study by WalletHub examines three areas - the number of obese and overweight people in each state; health consequences; and food and fitness.

Kentucky ranked fifth for the highest percentage of adults with type two diabetes.

Jill Gonzalez with Wallethub said 26 percent of Kentucky's children are obese.

"It has the 4th highest percentage of obese children in the country. Three times higher than, say, a Colorado or Washington state," she said.

Gonzalez said too many Kentuckians are sedentary.

She said, "It also has the fourth highest percentage of physically inactive adults. So it's adult numbers are in the bottom ten as well."

Nationwide, more than seven in ten adults ages 20 and older are either overweight or obese.

Mississippi has the most obese residents overall, while Colorado has the least.
