The average number of packages passing through the UPS Worldport sorting center at Louisville International Airport will double in the week before Christmas.  

UPS spokesperson Jackie Blair spoke of the number of packages they see during a 24-hour period, and what they expect.

"We anticipate that being during the holiday, between the day and the night sort to go from 1,8 million - which is the combined - to approximately four (million) Christmas week," said UPS Spokesperson Jackie Blair.

The sorting center in Louisville is the largest for air cargo that UPS has in the world.  

There are usually about 150 UPS airplanes on the ground transferring packages during the holiday season.  
 
UPS Worldport has 5.2 million square feet, including its automated sorting system.
