Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell says in a new TV ad he wants to take the country in a different direction.
The 60-second ad debuting statewide Friday picks up on one of the Republican's campaign themes _ that President Barack Obama's environmental policies have been devastating for the eastern Kentucky coal industry. The ad features coal employees.
McConnell says Obama will be out of office in three years, but coal will still be in the ground.
He calls for an end to the so-called "war on coal'' and says the region will have a future once Obama's term ends.
McConnell is being challenge by Democrat Alison Lundergan Grimes.
Obama's environmental regulations have drawn opposition in coal regions. Appalachian coal businesses also face higher production costs and competition from natural gas.
