A nearly 16-pound country ham sold for a record $2 million on Thursday at the Kentucky State Fair.

This year's grand champion ham, provided by Broadbents B&B Foods in Kuttawa, weighed 15.89 pounds, selling for $125,865 per pound.

Republic Bank and Hermitage Farm Charities paid $1 million each to buy the ham as part of a charity auction at the 51st annual Kentucky Country Ham Breakfast sponsored by the Kentucky Farm Bureau.

It was the largest price ever paid for a ham at the charity auction, breaking the 2010 record of $1.6 million.

A spokeswoman for Hermitage Farm Charities said the group plans to donate part of their $1 million to Louisville's West End School, a private school for at-risk boys. Republic Bank CEO Steve Trager said they will donate to a charity in the health care and education area.

Last week the country ham was declared Kentucky's Grand Champion as the state fair opened.  It was the 16th champion ham for Broadbents.
