Kentucky's Jobless Rate Drops to 5 Percent in June

State officials say Kentucky's unemployment rate fell in June.

The state Office of Employment and Training said Thursday that last month's jobless rate dropped to 5 percent, down from a revised 5.1 percent in May. Officials say last month's preliminary jobless rate was down from the 5.3 percent statewide rate in June 2015.

The national jobless rate was 4.9 percent last month.

Kentucky officials say the state's construction sector jumped by 1,300 jobs last month. Other sectors with employment gains included professional and business services, financial activities, educational and health services and the government sector.

Kentucky's manufacturing sector declined by 100 jobs this past June compared to the previous month. The state's trade, transportation and utilities sector fell by 1,000 jobs in June.
