Kentucky forestry officials say more than 1,000 acres have burned since mid-March due to forest fires, and they're worried about the potential of more fires due to warmer, drier weather.

Officials say the Division of Forestry has battled more than 98 forest fires since March 16, damaging more than 1,320 acres.

Kentucky's state forester, Leah W. MacSwords, says the forecast for warmer, drier weather this week has fire officials worried about the potential for more forest fires.

Arson is the cause of the majority of forest fires in Kentucky, and the Forestry Division investigates the cause of any wildfire.

Through a partnership with the Bell County Forestry Camp, bloodhounds and handlers are now available to assist the Forestry Division with arson investigations.
