KSP Nets 347 DUI Arrests In First Week of Campaign

The Kentucky State Police have shared the results of their Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign up until this point.

State Police say in just the first week, there have been 347 DUI arrests across the commonwealth. The campaign began on August 16, and in just a week's time, there have been 53 impaired driving crashes.  

Sergeant Josh Lawson says that is an unacceptable number, “with Labor Day soon approaching vacation travel will increase and we must keep these families safe on our roadways.  There are no lack of options for getting a safe ride home,” said Lawson. “Law enforcement is doing our part to safeguard our citizens, we ask that others do the same. Plan ahead. Designate a sober driver or utilize a ride-share company if you have been drinking.”

The data provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration shows that on average, there is one alcohol impaired driving-related fatalities every 50 minutes across the United States.  Their data shows that campaigns such as 'Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over' can reduce DUI related deaths by as much as 20%.

The campaign will extend through Labor Day Weekend.  In addition to the DUI enforcement, KSP will also be conducting statewide traffic safety checkpoints, as well as special attention placed on occupant protection, vehicle safety, insurance compliance, registration violations, and speeding.
