Alison Lundergan Grimes' grandmother has returned to the airwaves to help her granddaughter win her U.S. Senate race.

Elsie Case, who starred in Grimes' ads during her 2011 run for secretary of state, talks in a new TV ad about the financial pressure caused by her husband's stroke. Grimes then criticizes Republican Sen. Mitch McConnell for votes she says would have raised seniors' Medicare costs.

A previous Grimes' ad on Medicare was debunked by fact checkers, who noted the budgets McConnell supported would not have affected seniors at or near retirement and later versions of the bill kept traditional Medicare as an option. The Grimes campaign says the new ad makes a broader claim that costs would have increased in different ways, including prescription drugs and preventive care.

A spokeswoman for McConnell called the ad a debunked partisan attack.
