Governor Andy Beshear announced Saturday that 92 new cases of the coronavirus were confirmed in Kentucky.

This is the largest single-day increase for Kentucky since the beginning of the pandemic, bringing the current total number of state cases to 394. Sixty-four patients have already recovered, while nine have died.

“This is a virus that spreads like wildfire,” explained Beshear. “We are going to see more cases in Kentucky.”

The Governor's Mansion and the Capitol dome will be lit up in green to show solidarity and compassion for the lives lost due to the new coronavirus. The governor encouraged Kentuckians to participate, as well, using green lights at their own homes to demonstrate support and resilience. "I want us to think about their families. I want us to pray for them and their loved ones," he said at his update.

He also reiterated the importance of practicing social distancing.

"The coronavirus makes us anxious, afraid, uncertain and isolated, but I hope you think we are connected more than ever," Beshear continued. "This requires us to be a commonwealth for the common good. In fact, it is a calling that our individual actions impact the safety and health of others."

The governor also provided updates today relating to Tennessee travel, financial assistance, and a new reporting hotline.

Regarding Tennessee travel, Beshear explained that Kentuckians can still travel to Tennessee for necessary reasons, such as work, caring for a loved one, or even visiting a closer grocery store, but are encouraged to avoid unnecessary travel to the state.

The shutdowns of businesses and schools have had a profound impact on the financial situation of many Kentuckians. In response, Beshear and the Kentucky Public Protection Cabinet have established the Team Kentucky Fund, an online platform in a style similar to Go Fund Me. The fund is meant to provide financial help beyond the state’s expanded unemployment for those whose jobs are affected by the virus. Both the governor and UK Basketball Coach John Calipari have been encouraging Kentuckians to make a tax-deductible donation to the fund for fellow residents.

Kentuckians who are concerned that coronavirus rules and mandates are not being followed can now call a new reporting hotline at 833-597-2337. The hotline will be monitored by the Labor Cabinet from 6:30 am to 8 pm CST. Kentuckians can also file complaints online at kysafer.ky.gov.

Governor Beshear continues to hold daily briefings on the new coronavirus each evening. These briefings are streamed to Facebook and Youtube.
