The percentage of children living in poverty improved in Kentucky, but nearly one in four children still live in poverty.
That's according to data published in the 2018 Kids Count County Data Book. The data looks at 17 measures of child wellbeing and whether outcomes for children across the state have improved or worsened.
The rate of children in out-of-home care rose in 92 counties, fueled by parents struggling with addiction.
The number of children being raised by a relative outside of the foster care system continues to rise with a 75 percent increase in the last five years.
Twenty out of every 1,000 children in Kentucky experienced abuse and neglect in 2016, which is more than twice the national average.
