Current law requires children to be strapped into booster seats if they are younger than 7 years old and between 40 and 50 inches in height.
The bill would raise those requirements. Children would have to stay in booster seats until reaching 9 years old or 57 inches tall under the measure. Any child taller than 57 inches would not be required to ride in a booster seat as part of the bill.
The legislation passed the House on a 61-26 vote Friday. The bill now goes to the Senate, where a similar proposal died last year.
