Former President Bill Clinton says that the most effective way to protect the environment is to show that it can be good business.

Clinton spoke to several thousand people, including students, at Rupp Arena in Lexington on Monday. He made the visit to Kentucky at the invitation of a Lexington Henry Clay high school student.

Clinton said that the only way to adequately deal with climate change is to develop a business model that shows it will boost the economy. He said retrofitting schools and local government buildings would create thousands of jobs.

Clinton was the last Democrat to carry Kentucky in a presidential election.
