Gov. Matt Bevin's office is suggesting that Attorney General Andy Beshear step aside or help Bevin clean up state government.

The comment followed a ruling Friday by Franklin County Circuit Judge Phillip Shepherd temporarily stripping the new University of Louisville board of trustees of its authority until a lawsuit brought by Beshear can be resolved. Beshear sued after Bevin abolished the board and appointed a new one.

Beshear said the ruling is a win for students, their families and public universities.

Bevin's press secretary, Amanda Stamper, criticized the ruling in a statement and said the governor's office is confident the injunction will be reversed on appeal.

On Wednesday, the new board of trustees accepted the resignation of embattled President James Ramsey and agreed to pay him $690,000.
