Governor Andy Beshear says new COVID-19 cases in Kentucky are on the decline as the state begins to reopen.

The governor says cases are down as testing has increased across the state.

Beshear announced 141 new cases of the virus in the Commonwealth, bringing the total number of cases to 8,426.Out of the new cases, three are in Christian County and one in Crittenden County. There are currently 477 Kentuckians hospitalized with the virus, with 90 of those in the ICU. Five more people have passed away after contracting the virus, while 3,069 Kentuckians have recovered.

Beshear urged Kentuckians to continue using caution, social distancing and hand-washing heading into the holiday weekend. Restaurants were allowed to begin welcoming diners indoors Friday at 33% capacity. Outside dining is also allowed.

During the update, Dr. Steven Stack urged all Kentuckians to be safe over the holiday weekend, and asked everyone to keep gatherings to ten people or less.

"This is a time that gets dangerous for us. People get complacent. We can have a tendency to reach the wrong conclusions sometime. We have taken our losses in Kentucky. We have families that have suffered because of this virus and because of the loved ones they've lost," said Dr. Stack, commissioner of the Kentucky Department for Public Health.

He also encouraged everyone to continue wearing masks, implementing social distancing, wash your hands frequently, and to keep your food covered.
