Beshear's 2015 campaign for attorney general received donations from Tim Longmeyer, his former chief deputy who is in federal prison for accepting bribes and kickbacks and funneling some of that money to Democratic candidates and causes.
Beshear has vowed to donate all of the tainted contributions to charity. But he hasn't done that yet. He says he is waiting for state campaign finance officials to complete an audit of his 2015 campaign account.
It's unclear how much money Beshear would return. Campaign spokesman Jonathan Smith said there might be problems with $6,000. But records show Longmeyer, his family and various associates contributed well over $22,000 to Beshear's campaign.
