West Kentucky Community and Technical College was recognized as one of the top ten community colleges in the nation by the Aspen Institute, in an award ceremony Tuesday in Washington, DC.

WKCTC has earned a place on the ten finalists’ list every year the Prize has been awarded, and was named a finalist-with-distinction in 2011 and 2015.

The school was recognized for achieving a strong three-year graduation/transfer rate (47% compared to 39% nationally), utilizing data to improve student learning, and an exceptional culture to get faculty engaged in improving teaching/learning that has led to measurable improvements in student success.

WKCTC President Dr. Anton Reece says the school will be launching the "WKCTC Express" program on Thursday and Friday, during which and his team will be traveling throughout the area to collaborate with other institutions to explore educational and workforce opportunities.

"We plan on showcasing educational awareness and opportunities and workforce training, with a heavy focus on our non-traditional students, and certainly our traditional students as well. We want to expand the college to ensure that we are meeting regional educational workforce needs." Reece said.

The Aspen Institute is an educational and policy studies organization based in Washington, DC.
