A small earthquake shook the ground in southeast Missouri Friday night.
The U.S. Geological Survey says the quake at 10:27 pm measured 2.9 on the Richter scale. It was 12 kilometers beneath the earth's surface, or about 7.5 miles deep.
The quake was centered 1.7 miles southwest of Howardville, which is about 5 miles west of New Madrid and about 22 miles south of Sikeston.
On the USGS website, ten people indicated they felt the tremor. All of them were along the I-55 corridor. No damage was reported.
