Democratic prosecutors have warned as they close out their case in President Donald Trump's impeachment trial that he will persist in abusing his power unless Congress intervenes to remove him from office.

Rep. Adam Schiff wrapped up the presentation by urging Republican senators to "Give America a fair trial" by allowing new testimony before rendering a final verdict.

The arguments appear to have done nothing to shake Republicans' support for Trump or persuade enough centrist GOP lawmakers to call for new witnesses, including former national security adviser John Bolton.

The president's legal team is preparing its defense, expected to start Saturday.

Meanwhile, President Trump Tweeted Friday morning that his defense will begin on the weekend, when TV ratings are the lowest.

His Tweet read, "After having been treated unbelievably unfairly in the House, and then having to endure hour after hour of lies, fraud & deception by Shifty Schiff, Cryin’ Chuck Schumer & their crew, looks like my lawyers will be forced to start on Saturday, which is called Death Valley in T.V."

Media sources say Trump's team will be allotted the same amount of Senate time, 24 hours, as the prosecution, but they likely won't use all of it.
