The temperatures are up these days but one thing is down locally--donations for the Mayfield-Graves County Needline & Food Pantry annual yard sale.

"Right now we are low of donated items," said Tommy Powell, Sale Chairman. "We kind of got off to a late start and we have changed locations so this may have hurt us in our efforts to get people to start bringing in yard sale items. "We encourage everyone to check their basements, attics, closets, garages and storage sheds and bring in those items you are not using and are just taking up space. Donations are tax deductible and you will be helping a great cause, helping provide emergency food and utility assistance for needy local families."

Yard sale goods can be dropped off from 9 am to noon Tuesdays and 3 pm to 8 pm on Thursdays at the old Gotham City building in the Mayfield Shopping Plaza, behind the Princess Theater. If you miss these hours, just leave the items on the sidewalk in front of the building.

Due to space limitations, clothing is not being accepted. If you are having a yard sale and would like leftover goods picked up or you have items that you need assistance with in donating, call the First Christian Church office at 270-247-2204.

The 10th annual yard and bake sale, which benefits the local Needline & Food Pantry, will be held September 26 at the old Gotham City building. Last year the sale raised about $12,000 and the goal is to raise this much or more this fall.

"We have a lot of volunteers, churches and businesses helping this year but right now what we need are items we can sell to help us reach our goal," Powell said. "Everybody has something they can donate so please, bring it on."

Items not sold at the yard sale will be donated to the JU Kevil Center or other local charities.
